R.I.P Dirk Dirksen, Majordomo of the "Fab Mab"

That's Mabuhay Gardens to you, which in 1976 became the first proper punkrock venue in San Francisco...for the countless number of bands who played there, the Mabuhay served as a lightning rod of activity, ambition and adventure.

And if the Mab was a lightning rod, Dirksen was a cattle prod, shocking patrons and performers out of any self-satisfied complacencies, however artistically noble or naive, goading them beyond their preconceptions and pretensions, forcing them to realize one's fullest potential as creative beings. And make some bucks, throw popcorn around and generally FSU in the process, too.

A rare and unique artist and patron, as only San Francisco could produce and nurture. Requiecsat in pace.
